Three Chelsea receive praise from Frank Lampard after narrow Liverpool defeat

Chelsea chief Frank Lampard has praised a trio of his players following the narrow loss to Liverpool this evening.

The Blues almost earned a draw, despite being two goals down, but couldn’t make their late dominance count against Jurgen Klopp‘s side.

But the second-half performance was encouraging for Lampard.

And the Chelsea boss was quick to praise the goalscorer N’Golo Kante, who was making his first start since returning from injury.

“We end being not surprised with Kante, which is not fair on him really,” he told the club’s official website.

“He did it in the Super Cup without training, he did it today with probably not match-fit training, but he’s so important for us you put him in the team and he showed his qualities.”

Chelsea condeced two in the first-half but did well to keep Liverpool’s dangerous attacking trio at bay for the rest of the tie.

And Lampard said Fiyako Tomori deserved special praise.

Tomori took on the challenge of marking Mohamed Salah

“I have to single out Tomori. For a young player like him to go up against Mo Salah, who is lethal, and deal with him for pace and in the mind, I thought was class,” he said.

“Everything he did was.

“Those are the signs I’m looking for individually.”

Finally, Emerson Palmieri’s early substitution meant Marcos Alonso was introduced much sooner than expected.

“And Alonso. He came on and did really well,” Lampard added.

“It’s not easy coming on in a big game like that.”

Lampard’s Chelsea have now won, drawn and lost two Premier League games under Lampard.

But the Stamford Bridge boss will be concerned by his defence.

Chelsea have now conceded 16 goals in eight games.
