Liverpool news: Jurgen Klopp – What Mohamed Salah said about Sadio Mane after signing | Football | Sport

Mohamed Salah was cautious of forcing Sadio Mane to change position when he arrived at Liverpool, Jurgen Klopp has revealed.

Salah joined Liverpool from Roma for £34million in June 2017 and became a sensation in his first season for the Reds, scoring 44 goals in all competitions.

The inside right forward has since become the poster boy of Liverpool’s electric three-pronged attack with Mane on the other flank and Roberto Firmino down the middle.

Klopp signed Mane the summer before Salah and had played him on the right flank for the majority of the campaign before the Egyptian arrived. Speaking about this star-studded attackers, the German tactician told Sky Sports: “It’s incredible how they’ve developed together.

“The boys are brilliant characters – different but brilliant – but of course we signed (Salah and Mane) because they obviously had outstanding skills.

“I remember when we spoke to Mo the first time, he said: ‘Yes, but Sadio is playing on the right wing and he’s not bad is he?’

“And I said: ‘I know, but he can play on the other wing as well.’

“It was clear it wasn’t just one pushing the other – they could play together. They’re a proper threat.

“It just works, with Bobby as the connector. Different games can mean different line-ups of course but to have these three in this shape is nice.”

Salah and Mane shared the Golden Boot with Arsenal forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang last season and have four goals apiece this term.

The pair did have a rare rift during a 3-0 win at Burnley in August, however, when Salah fluffed a chance when he could have passed to Mane, who was in a better position to score.

The Senegal international fumed as he was substituted off but Klopp played down the incident after the game.

“It’s good eh?” Klopp laughed. “He was upset, it was obvious. Sadio cannot hide his emotions, I like that. But all sorted.

“We spoke about it and everything is fine. We are individuals, we are emotional.

“It was a situation in a game. What else could have happened? It was not a phone call.

“Would he do exactly the same again? Probably not. He didn’t say any wrong words, he just looked a little bit different to how he looks usually.”
