Liverpool ace speaks out about two stars he’s copied ahead of Chelsea clash

Liverpool ace Trent Alexander-Arnold says he studied two European greats during his youth-team career.

The England international is now firmly established as one of the best full-backs in Europe.

But the 20-year-old admits he’s copied his best bits from some elite players.

Alexander-Arnold says Bayern Munich legend Philipp Lahm and PSG ace Dani Alves were his idols growing up.

“When I was studying full-backs it was always Philipp Lahm and Dani Alves,” he told the Mail on Sunday.

“For me, it’s Alves. He’s a really attacking aggressive player, solid in his defensive duties but really good attacking-wise, almost like a winger, makes things happen.

“Our analysts would clip together Alves’s best work of the season for me to study.

“I focused more on Lahm defensively and Alves in the attacking sense.

“I enjoy the attacking side of being a full-back more but I understand that the defensive side is more important.

“Without a solid foundation, you are going to have to outscore teams 5-4, 4-3 and we don’t want that. I know I’m still learning.

Alexander-Arnold and his Liverpool team-mates will face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge this afternoon.

“The manager is so good at making sure nothing is left untouched in training,” he said.

“If there’s anything he doesn’t like, he picks up on it straightaway.

“The lads are always wanting to improve, are training hard to be successful and to get to the next level, and we always know there’s room for improvement.

“Having the manager on us constantly makes it easy for us to stay concentrated.”
