LaLiga: What a difference a year makes for Lopetegui
LaLiga His Real Madrid collapse started at Sevilla
A year is an extremely long time in the world of football and Sevilla coach Julen Lopetegui knows that better than most, as he prepares to welcome his former side to the Estadio Sanchez Pizjuan.
Additionally, Lopetegui was attributed with some of the credit for a number of Madrid players making the FIFA FIFPro World11, as well as Luka Modric scooping ‘The Best’ individual award.
However, against Sevilla, Madrid would slump to a 3-0 defeat which started an awful run of form that eventually ended in the Spanish technician being sacked by the end of October.
A year later, he takes on his former team after a similarly excellent start to life at Sevilla side that have won three out of their first four league games.
The aim for Lopetegui will be to get a positive result in front of his new supporters and extend his encouraging run in Andalusia for far longer than it lasted last in the capital and summon the demons of 12 months prior.
