‘I hope’ Arsenal legend Robert Pires has this message for Aston Villa supporters
Robert Pires has spoken of his ‘love’ for Aston Villa and their supporters and his hopes for their Premier League season.
He spent less than a season on B6, but has revealed the lasting impression the claret and blue faithful had on him.
Speaking to the Daily Star, Pires said: “I hope, I hope they don’t get relegated.
“I played for Villa for one season and it’s a great club – I love the stadium and the Villa fans.”
Ahead of the clash with the Gunners, Pires believes Villa’s summer spending spree, that saw 12 players arrive for a cost of nearly £150m, should make them competitive in the Premier League.
“I know the owners and they have spent a lot of money to build the team,” he added.

“They want to be competitive in the Premier League. But I think this squad has a lot of capacity to stay up.
“The start is not so good but you know, it’s a long season.
“The most important thing for the manager – along with John Terry – is to believe in the squad. They have some good players.”
A win for Villa could see them go as high as 13th in the table and turn their indifferent start back to life in the top flight, into a perfectly solid one.
