Four players to play for Chelsea and Liverpool – where were they better?

In the biggest clash of the weekend, Chelsea host Liverpool in a match that means a lot to both managers but in different ways.

Frank Lampard is desperate for a win to bounce back from their Champions League disappointment after losing 1-0 to Valencia at home.

It has not been a happy return for the Chelsea legend – who has just won two of his games in charge.

However, it is a different story for Jurgen Klopp with the Reds top of the league after winning all five matches.

Both clubs have shared some illustrious players in their time – but where were they better?

Fernando Torres

Fernando Torres failed to live up to the billing at Chelsea

The Spaniard became the British record transfer when he made the shock move to Stamford Bridge from Liverpool in 2011.

But just 20 league goals for the Blues have seen him branded one of the biggest flops in the club’s history.

Torres enjoyed some of his best football at Anfield – where he and Steven Gerrard formed a strong combination.

Verdict: Liverpool

Joe Cole

Joe Cole’s time at Liverpool was wrecked by injuries

The tricky winger was a fan favourite during his time in west London, where he dazzled fans with an array of skills – winning three Premier League titles, the FA Cup twice and the League Cup.

However, injuries cruelly took their toll on the playmaker and Liverpool snapped him up after his Blues contract expired.

But his time at Anfield can be best summed up by the man himself – a mistake – being carted out on loan to Lille before rejoining his boyhood club West Ham after failing to make an impact.

Verdict: Chelsea

Mohamed Salah

Mohamed Salah has been sensational since moving to Liverpool

After arriving at Chelsea in 2013, the Egyptian winger rarely convinced Jose Mourinho that he was worthy of a first-team spot.

Loans to Fiorentina and Roma followed and he eventually made the move to the latter on a permanent basis.

It was there that Klopp saw his potential, signing him for £32m and it is safe to say he has been a success – winning the PFA Player of the Year Award in his first year and scoring 75 goals already.

Verdict: Liverpool

Nicolas Anelka

Nicolas Anelka has played for a number of clubs in England including Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal, Man City and Bolton

The Frenchman is one of the original journeyman after playing for an incredible 12 different clubs – with Liverpool and Chelsea included.

His time on Merseyside was brief after Gerard Houllier brought him in on loan from Paris St-Germain as the Reds chased a Premier League and FA Cup double.

Howeve, five goals later the French manager decided not to make his permanent and seven years later he ended up at Chelsea.

At the Blues, he was much more successful – forming a deadly strike force with Didier Drogba and Florent Malouda under Carlo Ancelotti, storming to a league title.

Verdict: Chelsea
