‘Depending on Aston Villa’ Arsenal boss Unai Emery makes this key decision

Unai Emery has said his Arsenal team will continue to play out from the back, despite the error which led to Watford scoring last time out.

The Gunners are well known for their footballing philosophy nad the Spaniard has claimed that passing out from the back is part of their identitiy.

Against Watford, Arsenal keeper Bernd Leno played short to Sokratis who preceded to then give the ball away, gifting the Hornets a way back into the game.

And ahead of the visit of Aston Villa to The Emirates, the Spanish boss has confirmed his team will continue to try and play short, unless Dean Smith’s side counter it accordingly.

“To build up with the goalkeeper and centre back is going to be our identity but we are going to share sometimes with long balls.

“Against Frankfurt we were different and decided more times to do long ball, earn metres on the pitch and after attack the space. We are going to decide what to do on Sunday, depending on Aston Villa.”

Emery came under fire following the Watford match, with individual mistakes playing a big role in both goals. But Emery has stood by defender Sokratis, taking responsibility for the error strewn performance.

“We are a team. It is not individual. We spoke with him, with them. We need to be together and one mistake is not his mistake.

“It is the mistake of all the team and I am responsible because I decided to start like that.

“We need to be together when we win, when we lose and also be convinced in our preparation and our game plan in each match.”
