Arsenal fans hail one moment as crucial to Aston Villa comeback

Arsenal recorded a surprising 3-2 comeback at Aston Villa on Sunday.

John McGinn put the hosts ahead after 20 minutes, before Ainsley Maitland-Niles was sent off just before half-time.

The Gunners managed to pull one back on the hour mark thanks to a penalty from Nicolas Pepe, his first goal for the Gunners.

But Wesley spoiled the party just a minute later, diverting Jack Grealish’s low cross home.

It was Arsenal who had the last laugh though, as Calum Chambers and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang both found the back of the net in the final 10 minutes.

And Gunners supporters think they have pinpointed the exact moment their fortunes changed.

A man who often comes in for criticism is defensive midfielder Granit Xhaka.

And the Swiss was taken off with 20 minutes to go when the score was 2-1 in Villa’s favour.

Taking to Twitter, loads of supporters shared the same theory.

Breaking it down, one wrote: “72nd min: Arsenal losing 2-1 and take off Xhaka.

“84th min: Arsenal winning 3-2

“Coincidence? I think not. Get Xhaka out of Arsenal FC.”

“Xhaka off, Arsenal are now winning 3-2. Makes you think,” a second added.

And a third questioned: “Anyone see what happened when you take off Xhaka?”
