Manuel Pellegrini reveals what he wants West Ham squad ‘to demonstrate’ vs Man Utd | Football | Sport

West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini has called for his side to start proving themselves against the ‘top six’ teams in the Premier League, starting with Manchester United on Sunday.

United are coming off a Thursday night victory over Astana in the Europa League while the Hammers’ last game was a 0-0 draw with Aston Villa on Monday evening.

The last time United and West Ham played the Red Devils came out on top with a 2-1 victory.

But Pellegrini wants his side to start stepping up against top opposition.

“They [United] played yesterday night but they changed nine players so it will be absolutely a different team,” he said.

“More than which is the best time to play against United I think we are in a good moment.

“So if we need to play against these big teams now we must demonstrate that we are able to play exactly the same way they do.”

West Ham are one of the sides vying to break into the top six this season, alongside Everton, Leicester and Wolves.

Pellegrini, though, believes it’s too early to talk about those aspirations.

“More than too early, I never said which is the target of our team before the season, I think that those are people that had that feelings maybe it’s because the team are demonstrating the game that we can be able,” he added.

“But your duty is not to hear what happens, is to play every game to demonstrate that you are able to do it.

“We know that we have a very strong team in front of us.

“Now we have a good test against United and we will try to beat them and it’s the only way to try to arrive in the first six positions of the table, demonstrating every game that you are able to do it.”
