Celtic boss Neil Lennon makes key decision on star he ‘does not trust’

Celtic star Olivier Ntcham is facing a battle to return to Neil Lennon’s squad.

The French midfielder has failed to start any of the Hoops’ last four matches.

He looked to have a starting place locked down after a string of impressive performances earlier this term.

However, despite making an impact against Rennes on Thursday in his 30 minute cameo, things are looking slightly bleak for Ntcham at Parkhead.

Lennon described the 23-year-old as a “a good player” this week ahead of their Europa League fixture in France.

But according to Football Insider , the Bhoys boss “does not trust” Ntcham to fulfil his defensive duties.

Scott Brown and Callum McGregor have become the first choice midfield pairing in recent weeks.

Olivier Ntcham’s place in the Celtic team is in serious jeopardy

And it is claimed that Lennon has no plans to change that any time soon.

The Northern Irishman is understood to have two main concerns about playing Ntcham in central-midfield alongside Brown.

Firstly, Lennon has doubts over Ntcham’s willingness to track opposition runners.

And secondly, questions have been raised about his energy levels, which may not compliment Brown’s more tactical, defensive approach.

Instead, Lennon would prefer to play Ntcham as an attacking-midfielder, where he can focus his energy on creating goals.

Of course, he would face serious competition for a spot in that position, with the in-form Ryan Christie currently holding that place down with aplomb.
