Simon Mignolet slams Liverpool over exit and reveals five clubs wanted him

Liverpool have grown into one of the best teams in the world under Jurgen Klopp after winning the Champions League last summer.

One of the main reasons was the acquisition of Alisson – who strengthened their defence tenfold.

However, it left Simon Mignolet in the wilderness – becoming sidelined by the Brazilian.

The Belgian kept hush throughout his time out in the cold and joined Club Brugge in August after being granted a move.

But he has appeared to hit out at Klopp after his move following his treatment at the Reds.

He said: “When I went on holiday with my wife, Club Brugge wasn’t even in my head as an option. While I was open to it.

“I am a born and raised Truienaar and still supporter of STVV. But if there used to be a team that I had a warm heart for, it was Club Brugge. From my childhood.

“After pre-season, I returned with the idea: now I am going to give everything here and I get nothing in return.

“However, that was the easy option: seeing out the remaining two years at Liverpool, making good money at a top European club and being a free agent the age of 33.

“But another two years on the bench, that wasn’t in me. I had been at the end of my patience for the past six or seven months.”

Mignolet also revealed how Crystal Palace, Bournemouth and Aston Villa wanted him in the Premier League while Porto and Benfica were also sniffing around.

But he is No.1 choice at Club Brugge and made his return to the Champions League on Wednesday.

The ex-Sunderland stopper kept a clean sheet in a 0-0 draw with Galatasaray but there are tougher opponents to come.

Club Brugge share a group with Real Madrid and Paris St-Germain and qualifying may simply be a step too far.
