Manchester City set to lose another star player after Kompany’s exit

It seems Manchester City’s old guard is departing the Etihad, one by one.

Vincent Kompany exited in the summer to become a player/manager at Anderlecht, and according to the Independent, David Silva will follow at the end of this season.

The report says he’s agreed to join Inter Miami, David Beckham’s MLS franchise that will become active in 2020.

Silva is 33-years-old and not an automatic starter anymore, but he’s still a wonderful footballer and genuinely one of the best, if not the best, playmakers we’ve seen during the Premier League era.

The reality is that City have the likes of Bernardo Silva, Kevin de Bruyne and wonderkid Phil Foden coming through the ranks, so won’t be short of talent in the attacking midfield positions – but losing a player of the Spaniard’s ilk will still affect the squad.

Pep Guardiola was confident he could cope without Kompany, but now our biggest rivals are in a position where they’ll need to field Kyle Walker alongside Nicolas Otamendi for some time following injuries for Aymeric Laporte and John Stones.

Let’s hope they continue to struggle and concede goals – although there Premier League fixture list is very easy for the next few weeks and we can’t envisage any more immediate slip-ups.
