Arsenal news: Bukayo Saka on why he speaks to Freddie Ljungberg after Unai Emery team talk | Football | Sport

Bukayo Saka admits he often speaks to Arsenal legend Freddie Ljungberg because sometimes he doesn’t understand manager Unai Emery’s instructions.

Saka earned a rare first-team start on Thursday in the Gunners’ Europa League opener against Eintracht Frankfurt at the Commerzbank-Arena.

The 18-year-old took full advantage of that opportunity in Frankfurt as he set up both Joe Willock and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s goals and also scored a stunning finish in the north London team’s 3-0 victory.

The young winger is rising through the ranks of the Emirates outfit but has admitted he is struggling to understand Emery’s tactics.

That is why the former England under-19 ace turns to club legend Ljungberg, who was promoted to the first-team coaching staff last summer, for assistance.

The young Londoner has a better rapport with the ex-Sweden international who also speaks better English than the Spanish gaffer.

Ljungberg spent nine years at Arsenal, made 326 appearances and was part of the legendary Invincibles team in 2004.

The Swede played on the wings just like Saka and has turned into a mentor for the academy graduate.

The best piece of advice he has shared with the youngster is to stay humble and keep working hard.

Saka said: “It helps so much.

“Sometimes when I don’t understand, when the coach is trying to communicate with me, I have a better communication with Freddie sometimes, he speaks better English.

“Freddie’s information, he’s been a player at this level before, and it’s vital for me because I play in the same position as me and he’s been a big part in my progress.

“He gives a lot of advice to me every day but one of the most, the best piece of advice he’s given me is to stay humble.

“He’s been with me since I was 15, seen me do amazing things but he always tells me to stay humble, keep working hard because he really thinks I can be a top player.”
