Atletico Madrid: The Wanda Metropolitano is a fortress in Europe
Atletico Madrid Atletico unbeaten at home for two years
Atletico Madrid’s comeback against Juventus saw them extend their unbeaten run at the Estadio Wanda Metropolitano in European competitions.
The last time Los Rojiblancos were beaten at home in Europe came two years ago when Chelsea came away from Madrid with all three points on September 27, 2017.
Antoine Griezmann had given Atletico the lead from the penalty spot before Alvaro Morata equalised and Michy Batshuayi netted a late winner for the visitors.
Neither Roma nor Qarabag were able to beat Atletico at the stadium in the group stages that season before Copenhagen, Lokomotiv Moscow, Sporting CP and Arsenal all failed to score, let alone win, in the Europa League knockout stages.
Atletico‘s next home fixture in Europe is against Bayer Leverkusen on October 22, which will be over two years since their last continental defeat at the Estadio Wanda Metropolitano.
Atletico have made their new home a fortress in European competitions and they’ll be hoping it stays that way.
