Six former and current Manchester United players send messages to David De Gea over new contract
De Gea marked the news that he’d agreed a new four year contract — with the option of extending for another year — with a video posted to Instagram that he captioned “there’s no place like home”.
He also spoke the United website about how “it has been a privilege to spend eight years at this great club” and reiterated his desire “to support and lead in any way that I can to assist the younger players, so they know what it means to play here.”
There’s no doubt that it comes as a boost to United, which was reflected in how the likes of Patrice Evra, Juan Mata and Diogo Dalot reacted.
Evra commented on the video by saying home sweet home”, while Mata commented with a love-heart emoji and then posted on his own Instagram page with a picture of himself and De Gea. Mata himself signed a two-year contract extension in the summer and is known to be a close friend of De Gea.
Full-back Diogo Dalot also commented on the post by saying simply: “NUMBER ONE”, United women’s goalkeeper Siobhan Chamberlain said “love this”, while former United player and coach Phil Neville showed his appreciation with red, white and black emojies and United loanee Joel Pereira used emojies when commenting too.
“As a player he is still hugely determined and hungry to achieve more. We all look forward to working together to meet those ambitions over the coming years.”
