Liverpool FC in the News: What’s Happening at Anfield?
When it comes to Liverpool FC, there’s always an air of expectation in the club. And this feeling has increased since the arrival of Jürgen Klopp in 2015. Whether you are a kop or not, there’s something about The Reds that keeps pulling at you.
While the summer transfer was relatively quiet for Liverpool, with only two arrivals, the new season has started with a bang. After four games and four wins in the bag, the Reds are at the summit of the EPL table standings.
Well, other than the excellent performance on the pitch, there’s always something going on around the Champion League winners. Take a look:
- The Mo Salah and Mane Spat
The Liverpool duo of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane has powered the club to their recent glory. The prolific scorers tied with Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for Golden Boot in the 2018/2019 season.
But their usual camaraderie came under test when Liverpool played Burnley. Mane was furious about Salah’s refusal to pass him the ball while in the opposition’s area.
Everyone was quick to point out Sadio’s fury with many predicting it would affect the team’s performance. As it turns out, the teammates immediately made up in the dressing room. This was the top EPL news for days, but it seems there was nothing much to it. Or maybe the fans will have to wait and see.
- Virgil Van Dijk wins UEFA Men’s Player of the Year award
Van Dijk, the outstanding Liverpool defender, won the UEFA’s Men’s Player of the Year for 2018-19. In so doing, the Netherland’s international beat Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo to the award.
This adds to the Champions League Defender of the Season award which the Liverpool player had earlier bagged. He’s the first defender to win the award.
- Vincent Kompany on Van Dijk: The Best Premier League Defender In History
Vincent Kompany, the former Manchester City and Belgium Captain, recently labelled Liverpool’s Van Dijk as the best defender to ever play in the Premier League.
Coming from one of the best centre-backs of modern times, this is an honour for Van Dijk and it adds to the calls for him to win the Ballon d’Or. Sergio Ramos, the Real Madrid and the Spanish national team captain, has also hailed Van Dijk’s Ballon d’Or qualities.
- Paul Glatzel aims for First Team Action
Liverpool starlet Paul Glatzel has shown his intent to remain a constant figure in the first team. This came after the 18-year-old striker signed a new long-term contract. Glatzel’s excellent form saw him score 28 goals for the Reds U18s side during the 2018/19 season.
Despite sustaining a knee injury while playing in the first team during the pre-season, the striker seems to be in Jürgen Klopp’s plans. The manager has already moved him to Melwood from the Academy.
- Salah wins Liverpool’s Player of the Month, Again! (August)
Mohamed Salah has won the Liverpool’s Stanchart player of the month award. His three goals and two assists in a month helped the Egyptian forward to clinch the award.
Salah beat fellow forwards Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane to the award. The three goals in four matches in August also represent his best scoring start to a top-flight campaign.
- Liverpool interested in Napoli’s Fabian Ruiz
With the January transfer window approaching, transfer rumours have started swirling. Reports from Italy say Liverpool want to sign Napoli’s midfielder Fabian Ruiz.
The left-footed Napoli maestro netted seven goals and three assists. His manager Carlo Ancelotti has hailed his skills terming him better than Napoli legend Marek Hamsik.
With such accolades, it is only natural that Jürgen Klopp would show interest as he seeks to bolster his team in preparation for multiple title battles.
No Dull Moment with the Reds
With the Reds, there’s no dull moment, and this is what the fans love about their club. For a club to remain in the news for all the good reasons, this is an achievement in modern footballing times.
