Arsenal: Unai Emery told Gunners players to calm down after Watford draw | Football | Sport

Arsenal boss Unai Emery ordered his players to calm down after their 2-2 draw with Watford, and reminded them that they had another match on Thursday.

The Gunners were 2-0 up at half-time at Vicarage Road, courtesy of a Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang brace.

But, they surrendered their two-goal advantage after some sloppy passing around their own defensive line, and David Luiz giving away a late penalty.

Emery told his team that they would analyse the performance on Tuesday this week, and then immediately prepare for their Europa League tie, which is set for Thursday.

Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno said that Emery remained positive, despite the disappointing second half against Watford.

“Everybody was angry and disappointed after this game,” said Leno.

“The manager is a very positive guy. He wants to be positive and he said we will analyse this game with time.

“Now everybody was with emotions, very mad and crazy. But that is normal after the game.

“He said ‘calm down and then on Tuesday we analyse this game and then on Thursday we have another game’.”

Arsenal’s tactic of playing out from the back came under fire from pundits following the match, including former Gunner Martin Keown.

Keown claimed the Arsenal players were “naive” with their passing, and he was left shouting at his TV screen after they conceded the first goal.

But, Leno confirmed that Arsenal wouldn’t be changing their style of play, which when done correctly, provides profitable rewards.

“That’s our style to play,” said Leno. “We try to take the risk because if we beat the press of Watford, then there is a lot of space for our strikers.

“In the first half, we did it very well but in the second we didn’t create too many chances from playing out from the back. It is still a process we have to work on this.”

The Gunners now face a trip to Germany for their first Europa League clash of the season.

They take on Eintracht Frankfurt on Thursday, who have lost half of their four Bundesliga fixtures so far this season.
