Supercomputer predicts Man City’s Champions League campaign

Manchester City begin their Champions League season on Wednesday with a trip to Ukraine to face Shakhtar Donetsk, as they look to kick off their continental campaign in solid form.

Pep Guardiola’s side are keen to bounce back from a shock defeat to Norwich City in the Premier League on Saturday, which leaves the defending champions five points behind Liverpool.

City will be keen to wipe away that defeat immediately and sending a message to the rest of the continent in the Champions League is the perfect way to do it.

Alongside Shakhtar, City also face off against Dinamo Zagreb and Atalanta – two more sides that they should be able to beat comfortably if they’re on their best form.

While the blip at the weekend caused some raised eyebrows, City are not expected to stumble in the Champions League – and, in fact, a leading supercomputer believes City will secure a 100% record in their six matches.

Data boffins at FiveThirtyEight are backing City to win every single match during the Champions League group stages, with Liverpool and Barcelona also tipped to enjoy the same success.

Below City in Group C, it’s predicted to be extremely tight to secure the other spot in the knockout stages as Atalanta, Shakhtar and Dinamo Zagreb are all predicted to finish on six points – but the Ukrainian side are given a 42% chance of making the Round of 16.
