Real Madrid: Real Madrid squad back Vinicius amid goal drought
Real Madrid Courtois, Casemiro and Benzema have faith
Vinicius Jr. is struggling to find the back of the net, but his Real Madrid teammates stand behind the young forward despite his recent goal drought.
The Brazilian made his debut for Brazil last week and missed an opportunity to level the game, while against Levante he failed to score on five occasions, with just two of his efforts being on target and a goal ruled out.
“Vinicius also played a great game and let’s see if the goal can come soon,” said Thibaut Courtois after the game, when he was asked about Eden Hazard‘s debut.
Despite his pace and acceleration, Vinicius lacks focus and composure in front of goal, but Real Madrid‘s director of institutional relations Emilio Butragueno is confident that his goal drought will end.
“The goal will come to him, as he is very young. He has incredible speed, he has pace, he is good in one-on-one [situations] and he produces many chances.
“Be calm, he has enormous potential.”
Vinicius‘ compatriot Casemiro urged the youngster to understand his potential.
“Of course he is very young and you can’t put too much pressure and weight on his back,” he noted.
“But I think he has to start thinking big.
“It’s not normal what he did last year and he surprised everyone.”
Meanwhile, Karim Benzema works the Brazilian talent on an and off the pitch, as the two have built something more than a professional relationship.
“He has the maximum confidence of his coach, who is me,” said the Frenchman.
“He is certainly the future of Real Madrid.”
