Real Madrid: Odegaard: It wasn’t the best thing to go back to Real Madrid, but my goal is to play there
Real Madrid Norwegian has displayed his quality on loan at La Real
Martin Odegaard joined Real Sociedad on a season-long loan this summer, but the Real Madrid playmaker is confident that he will be able to make it at Los Blancos.
Loan spells in the Netherlands with Heerenveen and Vitesse saw the 20-year-old show flashes of his ability, and he recognised that he needed regular game time in order to keep improving.
“At the end of last season, I felt like it would be best for me not to return to Madrid,” Odegaard told the Norwegian channel TV2.
“At Madrid, there are lots of big-name players and there is a lot of competition [for places].
“It was obvious that it was better for me to ask for a new loan, which I think the club also accepted.
“That’s why we decided so soon.”
Despite Odegaard understanding that it will be difficult to make it at Madrid, doing so remains his dream.
“My goal is still to play for Real Madrid,” he added.
“That’s why I signed for them, because I want to play there someday.”
In his first few games for La Real, the Norwegian has made everyone in LaLiga Santander aware of his talent, but he points to his time in the Netherlands as a reason behind his development.
“I feel like I’ve improved a lot in the last two years,” Odegaard explained.
“I think I’m a better player and I’m more mature, older and a little stronger [physically].
“I feel better now than when I first came to Spain [as a 16-year-old].
“Age also helps, of course.”
