Gary Neville has said that Manchester United’s clean sheet was the aspect of the side’s performance that pleased him most in their defeat of Leicester on Saturday.
Marcus Rashford scored the only goal of the game from the penalty spot in the first half, before Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side held out to complete a second shutout of the Premier League season.
“I went into the weekend thinking this was a game where I was worried about it a little bit,” the pundit said. “I always had belief that United could win at home, but I just thought ‘[Jamie] Vardy, [James] Maddison, [Youri] Tielemans’, I just thought ‘Oh, they’re going to get them on the counter-attack, they’re going to score’.
“I didn’t think United would keep a clean sheet. The most pleasing thing for me about the weekend and probably for David de Gea who’s signed a new contract was the clean sheet.
“I think that’s one thing United need to continue to do. I know they got one against Chelsea at the beginning of the season but they did concede a lot of chances. Other than the Maddison chance on Saturday, I thought United actually managed Leicester quite well.”
United turn their attentions to Europa League action this week, as they face Astana in their first game of the group stages.
