Liverpool: Jurgen Klopp reveals stance after agent claims UK weather will affect future | Football | Sport

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has dismissed claims that he could leave the club because he doesn’t like the weather.

His agent, Marc Kosicke, said the UK weather annoys him, which is why he was stalling on signing a new deal at Liverpool.

He’s currently contracted at Anfield until 2022, and it’s believed the German intends to see out his contract.

But, Klopp has put to bed the rumours regarding the weather on Merseyside impacting his decision, claiming his agent was simply making a joke that got lost in translation.

“I am completely fine with the weather,” said Klopp. “Nothing in that story.

“He wanted to make a joke. It was obviously German humour as nobody got it.

“It’s not a reason for me to leave the country. Maybe at the moment it’s the most healthy weather in the world – we have enough rain, it’s cool, pretty much the opposite of this room.

“There’s nothing in that story. He’s my agent and my friend.”

On Monday morning, Kosicke revealed that the weather annoys Klopp, and it was having an influence on his desire to stay in the UK.

But, they’re still discussing whether to extend his stay in Liverpool past 2022, and Kosicke insists there’s plenty of time left to arrange a deal.

“Jurgen’s contract is still valid until 2022 and it is an open secret that the club would like to extend,” he told Spox.

“We still have a little time for that. We must wait and see how everything develops and whether climate change will bring better weather to England or only to Germany.

“One should not underestimate it [the weather’s influence on Klopp], anyway. I remember that in November or December, Liverpool first asked for a contract extension. I said: ‘Let’s wait’.

“Ulla [Klopp’s wife] and Jurgen get up in the morning and it’s dark. When they meet again in the evening, it is also dark or it is grey and there is drizzle.

“During the winter break in Germany, if the weather is really bad, the clubs go on vacation for two weeks, then come back and fly directly to the training camp in the sun for several days.

“During this time, the coaches in England sometimes have to prepare for up to 13 games. They are already exhausted and it’s not so easy.”

Klopp was speaking ahead of Liverpool’s Champions League clash against Napoli, in Naples.

The Reds will be hoping to start their Champions League defence with three points on Tuesday night (8pm), before hosting Red Bull Salzburg on October 2.
