Jack Grealish reveals Anwar El Ghazi and Tyrone Mings’ Aston Villa dressing room exchange

Jack Grealish has dismissed the coming together between Aston Villa teammates Anwar El Ghazi and Tyrone Mings as ‘handbags’ – but the skipper has revealed that the pair kissed and made up at half-time.

Mings was furious at the end of the first half with his claret and blue colleague for failing to track his man – something that led to a West Ham threat that the centre-back was forced to cut out.

El Ghazi, though, didn’t react well to the telling off and squared up to his teammate, even appearing to headbutt Mings.

The incident sparked quite a reaction from Villa fans in the stadium and watching on from elsewhere, but Grealish played down the fiery exchange and reasoned that the air was cleared once the duo shook hands at the break.

“It was all handbags,” Grealish said. “When you’re out there in the heat of the moment…Ty was saying that Anwar didn’t track his runner of something.

“Like I say it was the heat of the moment. As soon as we got in at half time it was put to bed. They shook hands and then we were out for the second half, ready to try and get the win.

“We said that that can’t be happening out on the pitch. As soon as we leave this dressing room to go out for the second half, everyone has to shake hands and be in this together, which we were.

“I did say to the ref ‘what you even checking for?’ but he just said he had to. Emotions were running high. We were so desperate to win the game and that’s what happens.

“It was nothing. In the changing room it was all quashed and then we were raring to go.”
