Gary Neville praises one Liverpool star who will be ‘world class’ for Reds
Gary Neville believes Liverpool have got a 20-year-old in their ranks who is soaring towards “world class” status.
The Liverpool academy graduate has made himself a mainstay in Klopp‘s starting XI and topped the Premier League for assists by a defender last season.
Neville pointed towards a lack of maturity in his game that previously undermined him, but experience has acted as a perfect remedy.
“He’s going to mature, and he’s going to be a world-class right back because that’s the most important part of the game,” he told TV2.
“Unfortunately, I thought that (the weakest part of his game) was the defensive part.
“He hits some amazing passes. He wants to be better defensively, and that will mean he becomes the player Liverpool want him to be.
“He makes me think of Kyle Walker, who was a weak defender for the first four or five years in the Premier League. He occasionally loses track when the ball is on the opposite side.”
Alexander-Arnold is currently competing with Walker for the right-back berth at international level.
Walker’s omission for the recent England squad suggests the Liverpool man is leading the chase with his best years still ahead of him.
The right-back’s flourishing career has coincided with a huge upturn in fortunes for Liverpool on the pitch under Klopp.
The German has turned Liverpool into title contenders and delivered silverware courtesy of last season’s Champions League.
