Frank Lampard picks out three Chelsea stars desperate to take on Valencia | Football | Sport

Chelsea’s young stars are ready to make their Champions League bows after impressive starts to their first season as Blues regulars.

Tammy Abraham has hit seven goals in his first five Premier League games of the season, with Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomori also on the scoresheet against Wolves.

The 2012 Champions League winners take on Valencia at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday as they look to start their European campaign with three points, and Lampard can’t wait.

He said after the 5-2 win over Wolves: “It’s certainly a good feeling to see the team play the way they did.

“We need more clean sheets, that’s something we continually need to work on.

“But, yeah – the Champions League.

“It is the top club competition in world football and I’m sure Mason and Tammy and Tomori are all excited for it.

“All the players should be, all players love the Champions League – and I’m looking forward to my debut as a manager.”

Valencia were involved in a 5-2 scoreline of their own at the weekend as they were crushed by Ernesto Valverde’s Barcelona in La Liga.

Albert Celades’ side sit a disappointing 14th in the table after four matches, winning only once.

One player that could feature after a long time on the sidelines is Callum Hudson-Odoi, with Lampard keen to update fans on his progress.

Lampard said: “I did watch him and I have spoken with him. I think he’s not far off.

“I think we have to be careful because it was a big injury, a major injury, and what we have done is actually get him back ahead of time.

“We have to make sure the strength is right in the area because it could lead to other injuries if we go too soon, too quickly.

“But the way he played [on Friday], I think he’s not far away.

“He’s been training with us now for two or three weeks.”
