Chelsea boss Frank Lampard drops Callum Hudson-Odoi hint ahead of Valencia clash

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard could be handed a selection boost ahead of their Champions League clash with Valencia tomorrow.

The Blues go into the fixture having battered Wolves 5-2 on Saturday.

But things might get even better for the Stamford Bridge faithful with Callum Hudson-Odoi battling back to full fitness following an Achilles injury.

“I spoke with him this morning. He’s not far off,” Lampard said.

“We have to be careful because it was a big injury and what we’ve done is actually got him back out on time but we have to make sure the strength is right in the area, because that could lead to other injuries if we go too soon.

“The way he played [on Friday], I think he’s not far away.

“He’s been training with us now for two or three weeks.

“We’ve got the Carabao Cup coming the midweek next and that will maybe be an opportunity to look at players who have been injured or different options.

“In between, if players, if Callum, shows this week how good he is in training I’ll have to consider him probably from now on.”

Tammy Abraham bagged a hat-trick against Wolves.

The talented striker spent last season on loan at Aston Villa in the Championship and impressed.

He bagged 26 goals in 40 games during his stint in the Midlands.

“I’m so delighted for him,” Lampard added.

“I know how hard the academy works and Tammy has a fantastic approach to the game and how he wants to progress.

“All three goals of his goals were so different, it just shows what he can do.”

Abraham is eager to prove himself at the highest level having looked so dangerous in the second tier.

“I hope this is my season,” Abraham said.

“I have to keep working hard in every training session, every game. Every game I want to prove myself to the gaffer.”
