Celtic boss Neil Lennon hints at January return for former fan favourite | Football | Sport

Victor Wanyama could be in line for a return to Celtic Park in January after slipping down the pecking order at Tottenham.

The 28-year-old played for Celtic between 2011 and 2013 before moving to the Premier League with Southampton.

The Kenya international was a regular in his first season at Tottenham but has since struggled to impress Mauricio Pochettino.

Hoops boss Lennon has now admitted that there was interest in the player during the summer, and that talk could take place in during the winter window.

He said: “There was interest but it never got off the ground.

“Could we look at it again in January?

“We’ll have to wait and see.

“We might not want to with the balance of the squad now, as well as the affordability.”

Celtic have got off to a perfect start in the new Premiership season, with five wins that include what was expected to be their toughest game of the season.

A 2-0 win at Rangers followed by a 1-0 win over Hamilton has given Lennon’s side the perfect platform to go and take on Rennes on Thursday.

The Boys in Green travel to France in their opening Europa League group game, and summer signing Hatem Elhamed is in a confident mood.

He said: “You have to adapt to the different conditions, whether it is against Rangers with 50,000 or against Hamilton with a small crowd.

“We just had to win this game and we showed a strong mentality.

“We got the job done and now we look forward to the next game against Rennes.

“The conditions were not the best but you have to respect the opposition and the pitch.”
