Birmingham City summer target set for swift Championship exit – reports

The George Puscas saga was one that ran for the final few weeks of the transfer window.

Birmingham City were among a host of clubs across Europe who wanted to give the Internazionale striker the chance to relaunch his career.

In the end, despite interest in Serie A, La Liga and Bundesliga, Puscas did opt to come to the Championship – to play for Reading where he signed a five-year contract.

Since then he has made a good start to his career in the UK, scoring three times for the Royals – and once for Romania in the Euro 2020 qualifiers.

However, despite being a matter of weeks into the deal designed to keep him at the Madejski Stadium until 2024, it has been claimed Puscas could be on his way, if not in January, then next summer.

Turkish website Ajansspor claims Fenerbahce still want to sign the 23-year-old and that boss Ersun Yanal remains an admirer.

Indeed the report suggests representatives of the SuperLig outfit continue to watch his Reading matches and saw him play against Spain a couple of weeks ago.

Reading manager Jose Gomes did not rule out an exit for Puscas when asked at the end of last week whether he feared losing him in January.

“Nobody knows – no-one can say there’s no chance [of a move happening] or for sure [it will happen],” he told BerkshireLive .

“This side of football is a business, like any other, and when you talk about that it’s down to the offer you receive and the options we have to replace him or not. Right now I am counting with him. I like him a lot.”

Blues liked him a lot too but were unable to bring him to St Andrew’s despite seeing Che Adams and Isaac Vassell leave the club.

In the end they made a late bid for Dwight Gayle and Dinamo Zagreb’s Mario Gavranovic but have gone into the season with only two senior strikers.
