PSG star Neymar reveals why he wanted to join Barcelona – and what his intentions are now | Football | Sport
The Brazil international made his first appearance for the Ligue 1 giants against Strasbourg on Saturday, scoring a dramatic late winner.
Neymar was booed by PSG fans for wanting to leave but silenced them with a stunning overhead kick in the 94th minute.
And the 27-year-old has now revealed why he wanted to quit the Parc des Princes while insisting he intends to do his utmost for Thomas Tuchel’s side.
“Everyone knows I wanted to leave,” he said.
“I made it very clear. I won’t go into details though, because it affects others.
“But I’m still a PSG player and my intention is to be happy on the pitch. My mind is on PSG.
“I always made it clear that I don’t have anything against PSG or the fans. They were personal reasons.
“I had my reasons and I tried my best to make it happen, but unfortunately they didn’t let me.
“It’s already happened, but this is the first and last time I want to talk about it. I’m only thinking about PSG.”
Thomas Tuchel believes Neymar will accept the reception he received from PSG fans and move on.
“It was not easy because he is a sensitive guy, but he did well,” he said after the Strasbourg game.
“That’s the life, it’s not easy for the fans too during the transfer market.
“That’s why we have to accept their behaviour. I don’t want to judge their behaviour, it’s like that. It was not easy.
“He can play better, with more dribbling and more runs. He needs several games in order to find the right rhythm and his physical abilities to make our game faster with his sprints.
“He has the quality to decide the destiny of a game. I am happy he showed that in the last minute.”
“I always thought that Neymar‘s return to Barça was very difficult,” he told RMC Sport.
“Not because Barca, PSG or Neymar didn’t want it to happen, but because it costs too much.
“Barca has made large investments in recent years. They signed Griezmann for a lot of money.
“The salaries of the players are very large. Then I knew it would be very difficult.
“Neymar is who he is. I played with him and spent time with him. He is a humble guy, with incredible talent, of course.
“He is a great player but he is as he is. He has a life that everyone knows, even PSG when they signed him. There is nothing new here.”
