Brendan Rodgers reveals what he has been texting Man Utd’s Harry Maguire about
Brendan Rodgers has revealed he still keeps in touch with England star Harry Maguire.
But the Foxes chief reckons it’s a measure of how the big defender handled things that the two of them remain on great terms.
Rodgers said he’d texted his former charge wishing him all the best before the recent England games.
Tomorrow he’ll he hoping his side can give Maguire something to think about as Leicester try to get their first win at Old Trafford since 1998.
Rodgers said: “I’ve been in a number of situations like we found ourself in with Harry where players have been amazing and then they suddenly change into different people.
“Harry was absolutely first class and he ended up getting the move he wanted. It’s nice that you can behave with respect to your club and your colleagues and still do that.”
At a time when United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks for leaders, Rodgers says he’s got one in Maguire.
He added: “He has a voice, but it doesn’t always have to be big talk. He’s not a ranter or raver but he’s been a calming influence on them.
“It was difficult for him when the move to United was in the air. I understand the draw of wanting to go to a club like United because they have that worldwide status.
“Also, of course, there’s a financial side to it as well. You go there and you can double your salary. But taking all that into account, he was magnificent the way he handled himself.”
