Willian blames two player sales for Chelsea’s ‘difficult’ start to the season
Chelsea star Willian thinks the club can challenge for titles this season.
But the Brazilian admits it will be difficult due to the departures of Eden Hazard and David Luiz.
The pair both left Chelsea over the summer, in entirely different circumstances.
Luiz’s exit came as more of a surprise, however.
The defender was snapped up by Arsenal on deadline day in a cut-price £8m deal.
And Willian admits the duo’s absence has made things more difficult for his side.
“I think Chelsea can win some titles this season,” he told Sky Sports.
“I know it will be hard this season to win titles, as usual, it is always hard.
“It is difficult when you lose players like David Luiz, Eden Hazard, but we have some quality young players here who can improve a lot and in the future become one of the best players in the league.
“I think we have a great team.
“It does not matter the players, it does not matter the coach, every year we want to win something, and I think this year we can do it again.”
Chelsea were unable to replace any departing players this summer after being placed under a transfer embargo by FIFA.
Frank Lampard has instead been forced to turn to his young players to fill the holes in his first team.
Mason Mount is one youngster who has been called up to the senior side this season and has flourished in his new role.
