The mayor of Paris to Neymar: You have to win the Champions League for PSG
Ligue 1 Anne Hidalgo spoke in public
Neymar was unable to leave the French capital this summer as a deal with Barcelona never materialised, yet the mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, has called on the Brazilian to win the Champions League for Paris Saint-Germain this season.
Having been signed to take PSG to the next level on a continental stage, Neymar has played in just one knockout match for the club in the Champions League since he arrived as the Parisian club has failed to get past the first knockout round in successive seasons.
Injuries prevented the 27-year-old from featuring in the second leg of their last 16 clash with Real Madrid in 2017/18, while he missed both legs against Manchester United at the same stage last season.
“The Eiffel Tower was lit in red and blue, the colours of Paris and PSG. Now, boy, we love you so much but you have to win the Champions League,” Hidalgo stated on Tele Loisirs.
“He has to put his feet back on the ground and help the team that bought him.
“Paris received him very well. I like football, I like this team and I will support them until the end.”
