Mauricio Pochettino reveals stance on Christian Eriksen’s Tottenham role after first start | Football | Sport
Eriksen said during the summer window that he wanted to move on from Tottenham and chase a fresh challenge.
Eriksen has played well for Spurs this season, though, and even scored against Arsenal in the north London derby before the international break.
Pochettino, who added two midfielders to his squad over the summer, Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso, is adamant that Eriksen has always been happy with Spurs.
“He has always been happy here,” he said.
“Of course, everyone has their aims and challenges, but I told you before the Arsenal game that he was in the right mind. That’s why I selected him.
“He is such an important player for us and one we appreciate a lot.
“He is happy and if he can play, he will. All the decisions will be made on performances.”
Pochettino also spoke about the hindrance that the transfer window can be at times, because focus isn’t 100 per cent on aimed at work on the pitch.
“It is so important to re-focus. This is the squad that we are going to have until January, when the rumours will appear again,” he added.
“The most important now is the collective.
“We must put aside the individual situations and be all together again.”
