Man Utd identify new January target as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer plans for the future | Football | Sport

Manchester United are reportedly chasing Reading goalkeeper Coniah Boyce-Clarke and could make a move in January.

United shot-stopper David de Gea is still to sign a new contract at Old Trafford after months of speculation.

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to make plans for the January transfer window after making three signings during the summer.

And 16-year-old goalkeeper Boyce-Clarke is believed to be on Solskjaer’s radar after scouts were sent to watch him this week.

The Mirror claim that United representatives saw Boyce-Clarke be the hero for England’s under-17s in a penalty shoot-out in the Syrenka Cup Final with Poland.

It’s claimed that the Red Devils are not put off by the fact that Boyce-Clarke recently agreed a new contract with Reading.

Manchester United have reportedly been watching developments closely since Boyce-Clarke played against them at under-23 level when he was just 15.

It’s believed that Reading will now try to give the youngster a pathway into the first team to let him see his development.

It’s hoped that that would see Boyce-Clarke stay at the Royals as he plays first-team football.

For United, Solskjaer has been keen to overhaul this squad after a sixth-placed Premier League finish last season.

Solskjaer insisted United had spending power in the summer though he was keen not to waste it.

At the end of the summer window, the Norwegian said: He said: “I said earlier in pre-season and last season as well that it’s not about a quick fix. It’s a long rebuild, about the right players, getting the right people in and it’s not about suddenly changing that when you haven’t got the right ones and the correct answers from the players you wanted to have.

“If it’s a doubt, most of the time there’s no doubt and you’d rather trust the ones we have.

“There is money available when the right players are available.

“When the transfer window closes it’s a great feeling of relief. Now it’s done. Now we know what we’re looking forward with and I’m delighted with the three we’ve signed.

“That’s not the feeling inside the club and the feeling with the fans I’ve met. They are excited.

“There are always going to be fans out there wanting to sign players that’s part and parcel of being here. The players are here now and have been shown that trust and we believe in them.”
