Bielsa bombarded Leeds chief Radrizzani with WhatsApp messages to sign one player

Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa was so desperate to sign Helder Costa he bombarded club chief Andrea Radrzzani with WhatsApp messages until he got his man, it has been claimed.

The Whites are desperate to return to the Premier League after over 15 years away from the top tier.

And they have not had a better chance in years than this current period with Bielsa at the helm.

The Argentine’s tactical nous has given United a welcome boost and in his first year Leeds came close to promotion.

Leeds signed Helder Costa in the summer

The Elland Road outfit crashed out of the Championship play-offs in a semi-final defeat to Derby but this year they mean business.

Bielsa has strengthened his squad with the signings of Costa, Ben White and Eddie Nketiah.

But it was the former the ex-Marseille manager was desperate to sign, according to the Athletic .

So much so, that the 64-year-old would not stop texting Leeds chief Radrizzani on WhatsApp over a transfer.

The Portuguese winger eventually signed on loan from Wolves and has already been a hit, though he has been limited to a number of sub appearances.

Marcelo Bielsa is looking to take Leeds into the Premier League

A permanent move beckons next summer with the 25-year-old agreeing a four-year contract.

And the former Benfica star was a major part of the Wolves side that won promotion with the Molineux outfit back in 2018.

Meanwhile, former Leeds defender Danny Mills believes the international break will give Bielsa a selection headache.

Mills told Football Insider: “I think Marcelo Bielsa will have some questions to answer when everyone comes back from the international break but that’s what you want, competition for places.

“Everybody wants to play, everybody wants to be in the first-team and that’s what raises the levels of everybody else’s play. There’s not an awful lot between them.

“At the moment, Bamford’s got the jersey, if he continues to score and play well, he’ll keep it. When Nketiah gets his chance, he’s got to take it.”
