Man Utd fans all say the same thing after Carrick and Scholes’ performances in Kompany testimonial

Manchester United legends rolled back the years on Wednesday night as the Premier League all-stars took on Manchester City legends for Vincent Kompany ‘s testimonial.

Gary Neville, Paul Scholes, Nicky Butt and Ryan Giggs were all involved from the Red Devils ‘class of 92’, whilst Michael Carrick, Robin van Persie and Edwin van der Sar all featured too.

With the spine of the All-star side littered with United stars, it was always going to have supporters harking back to when these talented players were at their peak.

With the likes of David Silva, Samir Nasir and Sergio Aguero all turning out for City’s team, it was a star-studded side out on the Etihad pitch.

There were two former United greats that caught the eye, though, and it certainly wasn’t Neville.

The ex-United full-back was forced off before half-time with a hamstring injury, having lost Martyn Petrov after only one minute, as he fired City ahead.

Carrick , however, deputising at centre-back, rolled back the years with a vintage display.

The midfield anchor only retired from professional footballer at the end of the 2017/18 season and it was easy to tell he was one of the more recently-departed players.

Similarly, his old midfield partner Scholes was in sensational form, dictating play and running the game as he did on so many occasions for United.

There was one moment in the second-half where the Englishman sliced a pass through forwards to exquisite effect, a pass many current Premier League stars could only dream of, let alone execute years after retirement.

That had United fans fondly remembering the good old days, with plenty arguing that Carrick and Scholes could still do a job in the centre of United’s midfield on Saturday.

Here’s what they had to say on social media.
