Barcelona star Arda Turan gets 20 months in jail for firing gun in hospital
Barcelona star Arda Turan has been sentenced to 20 months in prison – but he’s unlikely to see the inside of a cell.
The incident occurred in October 2018 when the midfielder – who is currently on loan at Istanbul Basaksehir from Barca – was involved in an altercation with the singer, Berkan Sahin, in a nightclub.
The incident started after Turan had been accused of harassing Sahin’s wife.
The court subsequently acquitted Turan of the crime of harassment.
However, he was found guilty of intentional injuries [he broke Sahin’s nose], for the illegal possession of weapons and for firing a gun in the hospital where Sahin had been admitted.
Basaksehir have fined the experienced star 2.5 million Turkish lira (£350,648) for the incident.
Turan joined Barcelona from Atletico Madrid for £30m in 2015 but has spent the last 18 months on loan in Istanbul.
During his stint in Catalonia he made 55 appearances and scored 15 goals for the reigning La Liga champions.
Turan has been capped 100 times for Turkey, scoring 17 goals.
