Man Utd star Aaron Wan-Bissaka leads across Europe in key defensive stat
Aaron Wan-Bissaka has been a revelation so far at Manchester United.
There had been concern amongst fans over the hefty £50m fee paid to Crystal Palace for the youngster, given he has experienced just one full season in the Premier League.
But the 21-year-old is already making the right-back position his own under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and provides some conviction and assuredness in the back-line.
Wan-Bissaka still has plenty of time to develop his game and working on becoming a more complete full-back, to match the attacking ability of other right-backs in the league like Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold, now renowned for his impressive crossing ability.
Yet it’s hard to argue that the Croydon-born star is not already the best defensive right-back in the league.
In the opening four games of the season, Wan-Bissaka has won more tackles than any other player across Europe’s top five leagues.
The stats back up how relentlessly accurate Wan-Bissaka is in the tackle, but are also perhaps concerning in the sense that the player has so much defensive work to do with United expected to dominate teams themselves.
Wan-Bissaka had to pullout of the England squad earlier this week with a back problem, following his first call up to Gareth Southgate’s side.
But he is expected to return for United’s game against Leicester at Old Trafford on Saturday.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka has won more tackles per game (6.5) than any other player across Europe’s top five leagues so far this season.
