Defender opens up on decision to leave Arsenal, hints at Prem return

Derby County defender Krystian Bielik has given his reasons for leaving Arsenal, admitting he could have joined a bigger club.

The 21-year-old became Derby’s record signing over the summer as he said goodbye to Arsenal after five years that brought no Premier League appearances, and numerous loan spells.

Speaking to the press in his native Poland, the centre-back has reflected upon his unsuccessful time at the Emirates Stadium – while naming a Serie A giant who were interested in him.

“I was hoping that Unai Emery could give me a more concrete chance, but then it became clear that I was not part of his plans,” Bielik told Sport.PL.

“At the [U21] European Championship I wanted to show off to attract the attention of other clubs and I tried to do well. Before the tournament, [AC] Milan’s offer appeared, but in the end nothing came of it.

“I don’t want to say it’s a shame now. I love Arsenal and playing for this club was my dream. However, it was necessary to stray from this path. I came to the club from the Championship, where I will play and gain experience.

“I think that after the next season, if I play regularly, I will be ready for the Premier League.”
