Fan favourite outlines the way forward for ‘ambitious’ Aston Villa
Tyrone Mings has not forced himself into the England squad with misty-eyed dreaming.
The Aston Villa centre back has ascended to the highest level by taking care of business on the pitch, blocking, heading and tackling his way into Gareth Southgate’s esteem.
And you won’t catch him making any rash predictions about where Villa are going, nor how fast, after a studied start to their Premier League campaign.
Mings says Villa must adopt a similarly methodical approach to their short-term outlook, if their long-term ambitions, held by Dean Smith, Wes Edens and Nassef Sawiris are to be realised.

He said: “We are back in the Premier League and we are fairly new to it, so our goals have to be realistic.
“But at the same time we are an ambitious club, with an ambitious manager and ambitious owners, we want to go as far as we can go.
“At the moment we don’t know what that end goal is so we have to kind of shorten that and go into each game thinking ‘How can we win this game?’
“Until we are a bit more of an established Premier League team and we reset our goals and go for something further, I think we have to be realistic in our goals at the moment.
“That is to try and win every game and see where that ends up at the end of the season.”
