Ex-Birmingham City manager the favourite for Sheffield Wednesday job

Former Birmingham City boss Garry Monk is the even money favourite with the bookmakers to take over at Sheffield Wednesday.

Former Aston Villa and Blues boss Steve Bruce, who was sacked by the claret and blues last October after a slow start to the campaign, left acrimoniously this summer for Premier League Newcastle United.

He only took up the role at Hillsborough in January and guided them away from any potential relegation danger, but departed to manage his boyhood club,

In the meantime, caretaker boss Lee Bullen has been overseeing Championship proceedings – to date, they’ve won three and lost three of their opening six matches.

Who might be the next permanent manager at Hillsborough then? The bookies make Monk – who himself was sacked by Blues in the close season – the short-priced favourite, with Lincoln City boss Danny Cowley right behind him.

Then comes Bullen himself, and Tony Pulis and Gary Rowett.
