Four Manchester United stars in England squad as Aaron Wan-Bissaka gets the nod over Kyle Walker
The Three Lions will play their first matches since the defeat to the Netherlands in the Nations League semi-finals and will be hoping to put the disappointment behind them to carry on their fine form in EURO 2020 qualification.
England will be playing two matches during the break, both of which will be at home though one will not be at Wembley.
They’ll take on Bulgaria at the national stadium on Saturday, September 7 before heading to St. Mary’s, the home of Southampton, on Tuesday, September 10 to face Kosovo.
England currently sit on the top of Group A having won both of their qualifiers so far against tougher competition in Czech Republic and Montenegro, having scored 10 goals and conceded just once in March.
Gareth Southgate has called upon United players for his squad with Wan-Bissaka joining Marcus Rashford, Harry Maguire and Jesse Lingard.
The inclusion of Lingard has come as a surprise to many as the attacking midfielder hasn’t scored or assisted a goal for United since January in his poor run of form. But Southgate has stuck with a player who has often played a crucial role for him.
New United signing Aaron Wan-Bassaka has earned his first England call-up after an impressive start to life at Old Trafford.
Many England fans were calling for the 21-year-old to be involved in the Nations League finals in the summer but he wasn’t picked due to his imminent involvement in the U21 European Championships a few weeks later.
Now Wan-Bissaka has finally been given his much deserved place in the squad, though he faces competition to start ahead of Atletico Madrid’s Kieran Trippier and Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold.
There were also call-ups for England regulars Marcus Rashford and Harry Maguire.
Full England squad is as follows:
Goalkeepers: Pickford, Heaton, Pope
Defenders: Alexander-Arnold, Chilwell, Gomez, Keane, Maguire, Mings, Rose, Trippier
Midfielders: Barkley, Henderson, Maddison, Mount, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Rice, Winks
Forwards: Kane, Lingard, Rashford, Sancho, Sterling, Wilson
