Real Betis: One name and many doubts for Rubi
Real Betis head coach Rubi has outlined his thoughts on who Real Betis will put out to face Barcelona in this Sunday’s clash at the Camp Nou, as the Andalusian team goes in search of their first victory of the season.
The former Espanyol boss has opted not to include Borja Iglesias in his 19-man squad list for the clash on Sunday evening, following the ankle injury that the striker picked up against Real Valladolid last weekend.
“With the exception of one player, I know who will make up the other 10 in my starting line-up,” Rubi said in his pre-match press conference.
It is though that, despite Borja‘s absence, Betis could stick with the 4-2-3-1 formation that the Andalusians deployed in the defeat to Valladolid, however they may revert back to the three-man defence that Quique Setien used for much of last season. This system saw Betis emerge as 4-3 winners at the Camp Nou in November 2018, so Los Verdiblancos‘ players know that it works.
Should Rubi opt for the latter, Aissa Mandi would likely return to the starting line-up, following his triumphant African Cup of Nations campaign with Algeria this summer. In attack, a player such as Loren Moron could be given the chance to impress at the expense of Borja and Cristian Tello.
Whatever formation is decided, it seems as though the Betis coach expects his team to play both boldly and intelligently as they take on the Blaugrana on their home patch.
