‘My favourite’ Manchester United great sends Aston Villa message ahead of Everton clash
Excitement is building for Friday night football under the lights at Villa Park…and not just for home fans.
Aston Villa take on Everton this evening aiming to get their Premier League campaign up and running after suffering back-to-back defeats in their opening games.
Last weekend, Bournemouth came away from B6 with all three points as they held out for a 2-1 win with Douglas Luiz on target for the hosts.
Villa will be keen to avoid a third consecutive defeat when they face Marco Silva’s side, who will go top of the league with a victory.
Tonight’s clash is being screened live by Sky Sports with Gary Neville part of the broadcasting team heading to Villa Park – and the Manchester United great is looking forward to it.
Taking to Twitter, he enthused: “Let’s go! Off to my favourite away ground tonight to see @AVFCOfficial v @Everton… See you later.”
Villa boss Smith will keep faith with Wesley upfront as he bids to score his first competitive goal since joining from Club Brugge.
“It’s very important, we’ve played two games so far,” said Smith. “Tottenham it took them the last few minutes to take points off us and, last week, gave Bournemouth a two-goal lead and was unfortunate not to take a point.
“Our most likely goalscorer at the moment is John McGinn with his forward runs. Jack Grealish as well, even Neil Taylor has got himself in the box. I’m sure it’ll come.
“It’ll be a tough game. They’ve spent money trying to push into that top six. They’re tough to breach as Palace and Watford have found out this season.
“They’ve got the one goal. The bookies have made them favourites to win at Villa Park and our players will have their say on that.”
