Brendan Rodgers gives verdict on Harry Maguire’s start to Manchester United career
Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers has revealed he wasn’t surprised to see Harry Maguire make an excellent start to his career at Manchester United .
The former Liverpool boss managed the England international last season before he sealed an £80million move to Old Trafford in the summer.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer identified Maguire as the perfect man to add some solidity to the United back four and he made an instant impression at his new employers, helping keep a clean sheet against Chelsea on the opening weekend of the Premier League.
Maguire has slotted in seamlessly alongside Victor Lindelof in the heart of defence and Rodgers says it was no surprise to see him hit the ground running for the Reds.
“He’s been unsurprisingly very good,” Rodgers said in his press conference prior to Leicester’s fixture against Sheffield United. “He’s a top-class centre-half. I’m so happy for him as he was great in my time here.
“He had an opportunity to move to a great club in Manchester United and he’s gone in there and you can see the real difference he’s made; he’s given them real stability.
“He settles everything down because he’s very calm, but very imposing.”
The Northern Irishman watched his former player during the Chelsea clash and revealed he was seriously impressed with what he saw. Rodgers highlighted Maguire’s personality as another reason why he is destined to succeed at Old Trafford.
Rodgers added: “I saw the Chelsea game and he was exceptional in that and of course the other night (against Wolves) he was very calm.
“He’s a top-class player and not only that, Man United will find a really good guy as well. He’s very grounded and very humble.
“They’ve got a top-class player.”
