Aston Villa transfer target slammed as Manchester United Lllorente stance revealed & Arsenal pair told to leave – Premier League rumours

Butland boss fumes

Stoke City manager Nathan Jones has singled out Jack Butland for criticism following their latest Championship defeat.

The England keeper made two first half howlers as the Potters fell to a 3-1 defeat at Preston to leave them bottom of the table.

Butland was the source of constant transfer speculation this summer, with Aston Villa keen on the former Birmingham City man.

And Jones, who’s job is now under serious threat, believes a lack of focus on Butland’s part, is the only explanation for his dramatic fall-off in form.

“No one talks about him as being a Stoke goalkeeper,” Jones told BBC Radio 5 Live.

“Everyone talks about him losing his place in the England side or that he’s got to go abroad or leave Stoke to gain this or that.

“But he’s got to do his job for Stoke first. I don’t know where he must be mentally because there’s so much talk about him, but realistically we all have to do our job for Stoke.

“You don’t go from being a top goalkeeper to making errors like he is at the minute. There must be something playing on his mind.

“Since I’ve come here there’s been a hangover of players wanting to leave, players thinking they are proper players, players wanting to go and play in Europe, players thinking of their international careers.”

Villa were ‘offered striker’

Aston Villa were linked with Genk striker Mbwana Samatta during the summer transfer window.

The 26-year-old scored an eye-catching 32 goals in all competitions last term as Genk won the Belgian Pro League, including 11 goals across their Europa League campaign.

Villa were among a number of Premier League sides credited with an interest, along with Brighton and Hove Albion, Leicester City and Burnley.

A transfer fee of £12m was quoted for Samatta and although Villa did use the Belgian market to strengthen their squad in attack, they opted to raid Club Brugge for frontman Wesley Moraes instead. Midfielder Marvelous Nakamba also arrived from the same club.

Samatta has kept up his brilliant form for the new season, having scored four goals in as many matches as Genk go about trying to defend their league title.

Reports in Belgium claim the Tanzania captain was indeed ‘offered’ to Villa recently – but claim Sheffield United came closest to bringing him to the Premier League.

Man Utd not interested in Llorente

Manchester United are not interested in signing Fernando Llorente on a free transfer, according to latest reports.

United failed to sign a replacement for striker Romelu Lukaku after he joined Inter Milan for £73million this summer.

Spanish forward Llorente is available on a free transfer after his £100,000-per-week contract with Tottenham came to an end.

Arsenal moved for defenders

Arsenal tried to sign RB Leipzig centre-back Dayot Upamecano and Juventus defender Daniele Rugani on transfer deadline day, according to The Telegraph.

However, Unai Emery’s side found both players to be out of their price range, and instead plumped for signing David Luiz from Chelsea for a cut-rate £8million.

Time will tell if Luiz proves a bargain – Saturday’s visit to Anfield will be the first big test for Arsenal’s defence this season.

Emery tells players to leave

Unai Emery has added more kindle to his bonfire of dead wood at Arsenal by telling Shkodran Mustafi and Mohamed Elneny: “It’s best if you leave.”

Centre-back Mustafi, who cost £35m three years ago, and Egyptian midfield makeweight Elneny have been told to find new clubs in the Spaniard’s purge.

And Emery hopes they can both be shifted from the payroll before the transfer window shuts in Europe on September 2.

Ibe on Celtic speculation

Bournemouth winger Jordon Ibe has poured cold water on rumours that he will join Celtic before the Scottish transfer window closes next month.

Bhoys boss Neil Lennon is reportedly keen on signing the 23-year-old to bolster his options in attack.

However, when asked about joining the Scottish champions, Ibe was quick to distance himself from the speculation.

He said: “That Celtic thing, I don’t know about that. Any speculation stuff I don’t get involved with.”
