What Frank Lampard plans to do with Reece James during the international break

Chelsea have completely changed direction over their youth policy this season with Frank Lampard at the helm.

The Blues legend has been unable to make signings due to a transfer ban but is bringing the youngsters through.

The likes of Tammy Abraham, Fikayo Tomori and Mason Mount have been promoted to the first team.

But Lampard will not stop there with one man set to join them from the Chelsea academy.

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has been keen to use the youth

Davide Zappacosta was sent out on loan to Roma until January – leaving Cesar Azpilicueta as the club’s only right-back.

But the Spaniard will be nervously looking over his shoulder when Reece James returns from injury.

The 19-year-old has been frequently mentioned by Lampard to be a “big player” this year in the squad.

And The Sun report that the full-back will be fast-tracked to the first team after the international break.

James is expected to recover from his injury over the next two to four weeks.

It followed a nasty ankle problem which required surgery in the summer.

And The Sun claim Lampard plans to take a close look at James over the international break while the bulk of his squad is away.

The Englishman has had a tough start to life as Blues boss, still seeking his first win in charge.

Chelsea were thrashed 4-0 against Manchester United on his managerial debut while Liverpool beat them in the UEFA Super Cup on penalties.

In Lampard’s first game in charge at Stamford Bridge, Leicester pegged them back to draw 1-1 to leave the west London outfit with just one point this season so far.
