Real Betis: Borja Iglesias: I hope that I can play against Barcelona
Real Betis Spanish striker is carrying a knock
Real Betis face the difficult task of facing Barcelona in their second LaLiga Santander match, yet Borja Iglesias faces a battle against time to be fit for the encounter, even if the player himself is hopeful of a positive outcome.
The summer signing suffered an ankle injury against Real Valladolid in the season opener and it could well be the case that the Galician goalscorer is now forced to sit on the sidelines.
“I hope I can play against Barcelona,” Iglesias explained to COPE.
“It will be difficult, but I would love to be able to play.
“When decisions have to be made, I will evaluate everything. The injury is there and I’m going to work until the last possible moment, but we have to see how it evolves.”
Barcelona will be looking to bounce back after their opening defeat to Athletic Club last Friday evening, yet Iglesias is determined for Los Verdiblancos to not to let a wounded Blaugrana get in the way of their hopes for the season.
“There is potential in this group [of players] to qualify for Europe,” he intimated.
“There is a lot of teams fighting for that, but it’s the goal we set ourselves.
“We have to work to reach it.”
Playing against the defending champions would have been ideal for the former Espanyol striker, especially as he is on the cusp of earning an international call-up with Spain.
A positive performance against Barcelona would have placed him in the spotlight, even if he hasn’t totally given up on being selected.
“An international selection is the dream that we all work towards,” Iglesias confirmed.
“If the coach considers that I deserve to be there, then I’ll be delighted; but if not, I’ll simply continue working so that the call does eventually come.
“It’s very nice to be in the preliminary list, I’m happy to be there.”
