Liverpool’s Adrian reveals James Milner dinner chat about ‘sleeping’ with Super Cup trophy
Adrian has got his feet firmly under the table at Liverpool.
And it was his chat with James Milner at the dinner table, to be precise, after the UEFA Super Cup triumph that proves it.
The goalkeeper began the summer without a club after being released by West Ham.
Following the expiration of his contract, the 32-year-old trained in a bid to earn a deal elsewhere.
Fortunately, Jurgen Klopp came calling as Liverpool snapped Adrian up as a replacement for Simon Mignolet.
Allisson’s injury early in the season saw the former Hammer quickly get some game time at Anfield.
And his career practically peaked within weeks of joining Liverpool as he helped them clinch the UEFA Super Cup trophy.
Ex-Real Betis star Adrian was the hero as they beat Chelsea on penalties with the charismatic Spaniard saving Tammy Abraham’s spot-kick.
The players celebrated with a team dinner, and Adrian’s discussion with team-mate Milner shows how much he enjoyed his first taste of silverware in his professional career.
“We are playing football to live these kind of moments, great moments,” Adrian told Liverpool’s official website.
“Obviously, like life, you can have good and bad moments in your career. But you need to enjoy these kinds of moments with your family, best friends, with fans, with the teammates.
“After just one week, I played in the Super Cup and got this great feeling. I felt full of happiness in myself.
“I was having dinner with the guys after the game and I spoke with Millie and he said, ‘OK, do you want to take the trophy with you?’.
Adrian is expected to feature again for Liverpool in another crucial game on Saturday with Alisson still recovering from his calf issue.
The Reds host Arsenal at Anfield as they look to secure a third-straight Premier League victory to kick off the campaign.
