Man Utd transfer news: Alexis Sanchez replacement lined up, he still could be signed | Football | Sport
However, the former Arsenal man reportedly told the Norwegian that he wants out before the European transfer deadline closes on September 2.
Now the club are said to be willing to pay a large portion of his wages, to send him on a season-long loan to Inter.
At the end of the season, the Italians will have a chance to make the deal permanent for a fee of around £15m.
A replacement is already being lined up though by United chiefs.
According to ESPN, it comes in the form of free agent Fernando Llorente.
The Spaniard left Tottenham last season upon the expiry of his contract and is yet to find a new club.
Even though the transfer window is closed, Manchester United would still be able to offer the World Cup winner a contract.
Another situation that could impact the deal is that Napoli are keen on Llorente too.
He is seen as a back up option if they fail to sign Mauro Icardi from Inter Milan.
Gary Neville has told his former club to cut their losses with Sanchez and accept that he is never going to succeed at United.
“You talk about Alexis Sanchez going over to Italy… and I welcomed him to the club because I thought he would be a forward who could play all across the line, he would score goals, he’s tenacious,” he said on Monday Night Football.
“But he’s been a disaster. He’s been an absolute disaster. I have no idea what’s happened to Alexis Sanchez.
“The one that’s turned up in Manchester… I have no idea what it is and I have so much respect for him in terms of what I saw. ‘We talked so well about him but they need to now get him out the club. [Romelu] Lukaku doesn’t want to be there… get him out the club. It’s a phased transition, this.”
